Take your whole family, It's "Fun for the Whole Herd" at the Kitsap County Fair & Stampede
Take your whole family to the Kitsap Fair & Stampede August 20th through the 24th. It’s “Fun for the Whole Herd”.

Be sure to enjoy great new entertainment this year including:

  • Country Music Award winning artist John Michael Montgomery (8/20) on the Geico Concert Stage after the Xtreme Bulls. Attend free with Xtreme Bulls admission.

  • Hypnotist Kevin Wolfe will perform 2 free shows every day during the fair on the Center Stage.

  • Be sure to see Steve Hamilton Comedy and Matt Baker’s Comedy Stunt Show daily at the fair.

  • Bring the kids and enjoy the new and exciting Predators of the Hearts (wild animal show), carnival rides & booths, camel rides and pony rides, The Wenatchee Youth Circus, and the McMillan Family Trick Riders at the Rodeo each night

  • Visit the 9 barns and see the livestock brought in by youth groups (4-H and FFA) as well as open class animals.

  • And who can come to the fair without seeing the Destruction Derby – Sunday at 12:00pm in Thunderbird Stadium.

You'll also enjoy all the traditional fair favorites including the Xtreme Bulls Rodeo (Wednesday 8/20 at 7:00 p.m.), and the PRCA Rodeo Thursday (8/21),Friday (8/22) and Saturday (8/23) at 7:00 p.m. You can see exhibits galore and enjoy a wide array of tasty fair food. The kids will enjoy perennial fair favorites Cowboy Buck & Elizabeth, back for this years fair.

And no fair is complete without a variety of family fun contests such as the hilarious Diaper Derby, Bubble Gum Blowing, Animal Calling, and Seed Spittin’, at the Pepsi Stage..

Board of County Commissioners host reception
The Kitsap County Board of County Commissioners is hosting a community reception Wednesday, September 3 from 3-5 p.m. The reception is in the Commissioners' Chambers in the County's Administration Building (619 Division Street) in Port Orchard. The reception welcomes Public Works Director Andrew Nelson, County Administrator Karen Goon and Human Resources Director Steve McLain.

"Food Matters" is the next film in the Sustainable Cinema series. The fill will be screened Thursday, August 28 at 6:30 p.m. at Dragonfly Cinema in Port Orchard. Sustainable Cinema offers environmentally themed documentaries to encourage conversations about issues we care about in Kitsap County. Citizens needed to serve on Parks Advisory Group and others
Citizens are invited to get involved in the planning and management of Kitsap County parks by serving on the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. The Kitsap County Board of Commissioners is accepting applications from citizens to fill vacancies for Commissioner Districts 2 (South Kitsap) and 3 (Central Kitsap). There are also vacancies for a South Kitsap representative on the Arts Board; a Central Kitsap representative on the Noxious Weed Control Board; and the Kingston Ferry Advisory Committee.

Bucklin Hill Bridge Project and road closure delayed until 2015
The project to replace the culverts under Bucklin Hill Road, originally scheduled to begin this year, will now take place in 2015 according to Kitsap County Public Works. The project will be advertised for bids this fall. Construction is set to begin in June 2015 and will include a year-long closure of portions of Bucklin Hill road, between Blaine Avenue and Mickelberry Road starting in July 2015.

Workforce development in Kitsap gets a boost from Congress
An overhauled public workforce development program will be signed into law by President Obama after overwhelming passage by both the House of Representatives and Senate, routing funding to Kitsap County to provide job training and employment support services..

Forest thinning begins next month in Newberry Hill Heritage Park
Newberry Hill Heritage Park in central Kitsap County will be the site of the first forest restoration thinning under the Kitsap County Forest Stewardship Program with work to begin on a 20-acre portion the first week of August and continuing through September.

Fire Marshal calls for burn ban in Kitsap County
As hot and dry weather conditions continue the outdoor fire danger has increased. In response Kitsap County is issuing a fire safety burn ban in unincorporated areas of the County effective July 14, 2013. This is a Phase 1 burn ban and applies to all outdoor burning except for small recreational fires in established fire pits at approved camp grounds or private property with the owner’s permission. The use of gas and propane self-contained stoves and barbeques will continue to be allowed under the ban.

Recreational fires must:

  • Be built in a metal or concrete fire pit, such as those typically found in designated campgrounds; and not be used as debris disposal;

  • Grow no larger than three feet in diameter;

  • Be located in a clear spot free from any vegetation for at least 10 feet in a horizontal direction, including at least 25 feet away from any structure and allow 20-foot vertical clearance from overhanging branches; and

  • Be attended at all times by an alert individual and equipment capable of extinguishing the fire.

This ban remains in effect until further notice.
