To help raise awareness of building safety, Kitsap County's Department of Community Development (DCD) proudly celebrates Building Safety Month during May. Building Safety Month is a public safety awareness campaign to help individuals, families and businesses understand what it takes to create safe, resilient, affordable and energy-efficient homes and buildings.

The Central Kitsap Community Council’s April meeting takes place Thursday, April 17th at 7 p.m. in the Fire and Water District Community Room, 5300 NW Newberry Hill Road, Silverdale.

Veterans stand down set for Saturday
The 2014 spring “Stand Down for Veterans” is set for Saturday, April 26. The program runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is held at the Sheridan Park Community Center, 680 Lebo Blvd, Bremerton.

Mental health survey results released
Kitsap County recently conducted a survey regarding the 1/10th of 1% Mental Health, Chemical Dependency and Therapeutic Courts sales tax funding priorities. This retail sales tax funds a county-wide infrastructure for behavioral health treatment programs and services.

Silverdale water quality treatment project begins in April
In mid-April Kitsap County begins a project to install water treatment measures on Silverdale Way NW in the sidewalk area and on Byron Street.

DCD provides residential stormwater requirements training
Kitsap County Community Development (DCD) continues to host a series of training opportunities for customers seeking building permits. The next training is Friday, April 18 at 2 p.m. at the Administration Building in Port Orchard.

Fatal fire cause determined
The Kitsap County Fire Marshal has determined that the fire that occurred last night at 1442 NE Odin St in Poulsbo, claiming the life of 90 year old Harold Champeness was caused when Mr. Champness ignited his clothing while operating the kitchen stove.

County seeks road project ideas
Kitsap County is seeking road project ideas and suggestions to be included in the 6-year Transportation Improvement Program (TIP). Each year Kitsap County Public Works completes a transportation project selection process. This year’s process determines which new roadway projects are selected for the the 2015–2020 TIP.

Arrest made in fatal fire investigation
A Bremerton woman is now in custody for her alleged involvement in the circumstances surrounding the death of a Bremerton man last month in a residential fire that fully engulfed the house.

2014 Waste Tire Roundup announced
Residents of Kitsap and North Mason Counties may bring up to ten (10) waste passenger vehicle or light truck tires, on or off-rim, to the Port of Bremerton Olympic View Business and Industrial Parks April 12-13 and April 26-27 for recycling at no charge.

County considers closing Little Valley Road to through traffic
Kitsap County Public Works plans to close Little Valley Road at the intersection with State Route 307. “Little Valley Road is a residential road that was designed for local access,” according to Jeff Shea, Traffic Engineer for Public Works. “With only a couple of homes adjacent to the road we would expect about 30 to 50 vehicle trips per day on that road,” Shea added.

CK Community Campus partnership with Library District on future location
Kitsap County is working cooperatively with the Kitsap Regional Library (KRL) district discussing the feasibility of locating a new 8,000-10,000 square foot Silverdale library branch on the Central Kitsap Community Campus.

Kitsap County Sewer Utility residential rate payer survey
We are interested in your opinion! We are asking residential customers connected to Kitsap County’s sewer system to take a short survey. The first 400 participants will receive $10 OFF next month’s sewer service bill. To take the survey click the link below. When taking the survey, participants will need to have their residential sewer account information on hand.

Connect county government and community
Citizens who serve on Kitsap county advisory groups, boards and community councils have the opportunity to participate in and promote effective, efficient county service. Boards and councils serve as bridges of communication between citizens, their communities and Kitsap County government. The Board of County Commissioners is currently accepting applications for vacancies on several advisory groups.

Citizens On Patrol, Sheriff’s Office volunteers needed
The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office seeks volunteers for its Citizens On Patrol (COP) and Community Resources programs. COP volunteers support unincorporated areas of the county providing Sheriff’s Office presence to enhance public safety, enforce parking-prohibited regulations, conduct home vacation checks, process abandoned vehicles and assist with traffic control and community events.
