Critical Areas Ordinance Revision
and
Best Available Science Review
Kitsap County is
currently in the process of reviewing and considering best
available science (BAS) for possible revisions to the County's
Critical Areas Ordinance (CAO), due by the end of 2004.
The first CAO was adopted in 1994 and revised in 1999.
Kitsap County has
convened a Technical Review Committee (TRC) of local technical
specialists to assist in the evaluation of scientific
information. The TRC is assessing the BAS for
application to Kitsap County critical areas issues.Considering and
incorporating BAS, in developing and implementing CAO policies
and regulation, ultimately rests with the legislative
authorities of the County.
The information
will serve as web access to the current Kitsap County BAS
review process for five Critical Areas:Frequently Flooded Areas
Geologically Hazardous Areas
Critical Aquifer Recharge Areas
Wetland Areas
Fish and Wildlife Conservation Areas
