2010 Earth Day Awards Nominations Sought
(Port Orchard) – Earth Day celebrates 40 years! Kitsap County Solid Waste Division is
sponsoring the 18th annual Earth Day Awards, presented to individual
citizens, organizations and businesses for their innovative
environmental programs or projects. Nominations are sought for exemplary
environmental leadership in sustainability, waste reduction, recycling
and hazardous waste management. Outstanding achievers make a difference
in their choices and lead the way as they make others aware of
environmental issues.
Earth Day
Award Categories:
Partners in Environmental Education
Recognizes an individual, school, club, or non-profit group integrating
the concepts of waste reduction, recycling, and/or sustainability into
basic curriculum or specialized program.
Best Hazardous Waste Program
Recognizes an individual, school, club, group, organization, or
business, whose program has created a safer environment by using
alternatives to hazardous products by changing practices or processes.
Excellence in Environmental Leadership
Recognizes a business exemplifying leadership qualities in programs or
projects emphasizing sustainability, waste reduction, recycling,
hazardous waste management or green building.
Excellence in Recycling
Recognizes an individual or organization whose actions have
significantly furthered recycling by using innovative programs, ideas
and efforts, or whose influence has increased recycling in their
community.
Submissions and supporting documentation must be received by the end of
business on Friday March 12, 2010. The awards committee reserves the
right to move submissions into other categories.
Self-nominations are encouraged.
Award winners will be recognized at the Board of County Commissioners
meeting on April 12, 2010 with a reception following.
