Reclaiming 1 ton of steel saves 1.5 tons of ore. Steel recycling saves an average of 4,300 kilowatt hours per ton or 47% of the energy required to process steel from raw materials, enough energy to light a 60-watt light bulb for 26 hours. If we made new steel from raw materials we would have 538 pounds of solid waste and 42 pounds of air pollutants.

Remember to cover your load when transporting to reduce highway litter. It’s the law!
